When Rahman Family Foundation undertook the project for constructing a virtually homeless Shamim Shikdar (widowed with two minor children) family in 2024, she was also given a free choice to choose an income generating activity for her livelihood! Her unambiguous choice was a dairy cow., a popular occupation in the rural areas of Bangladesh.
Accordingly, the foundation included a secured room for the dairy cow during the construction of her new house.
Shamim Shikdar was immensely happy when we purchased and handed over a dairy cow to her. in 2025 This cow started giving 8-10 liter milk a day of which she started earning on an average Tk. 600-800 per day (USD 5-6/day) enough for her family’s living! With the help of a neighbor, Shamim Shikdar learned milching of her cow manually! The cow is now 4 months pregnant- a sign of growing hope!
